About ACT Exam
Exam Overview
What's Tested?
English, Math, Reading, and Science, (optional essay)
Test Format:
English (45 min), Math (60 min), Reading (35 min), Science (35 min), optional
essay (30 min)
Scoring:
Each sections receives a 1 to 36 score. These are averaged to a
"composite ACT score." Also, 1-36.
·
English: The
multiple-choice English tests punctuation, grammar, usage, mechanics, and
rhetorical skills.

Math: arithmetic,
algebra, and geometry. a few trigonometry questions.
·
Reading: four reading
passages in the categories of fiction, humanities, social science, and natural
science with 10 questions about each passage.

Science Reasoning: seven
passages, 5-7 questions each, you interpret graphs/charts/tables, understand
experiments, and comprehend scientific discussions-does not require a
science background.
Offered Six Times a Year: The ACT is administered 3X in the fall, 1X
in the winter, and 2X in the spring.
Many Students Take the ACT More Than Once: no limit-unlike with the
SAT, you can choose which scores you want to submit. Poor scores can remain
confidential.
